The St-Fidèle Cemetery

Cimetière de St-FidèleThe St-Fidèle Cemetery has tombstones dating back to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Many ancestors of current residents of  Ristigouche-Sud-Est are buried there, including the ancestors of the  Grégoire family who arrived around 1840.

It constitutes a part of Acadian history as there are Acadian descendants buried in the cemetery. All together, there are one hundred and forty-eight (148) persons are buried in the cemetery.

The St-Fidèle Cemetery was maintained for a few years following its closure and the expropriation of the village in1974. However, it was abandoned by religious authorities a few years later and volunteers took on the job of cutting the grass and clearing the perimeter.

The following photos show the work completed to embellish the cemetery. The majority of the work has already been completed, but there is still more work to be done.
